Romania's live action roleplay (LARP) scene is still small but steadily growing. At present, most LARP events in Romania take place in the capital, Bucharest, spearheaded by a creative team called the Ministry of Roleplay. However, new communities are emerging in other cities – including LARP in Bucharest, Cluj, and Timișoara – as local enthusiasts organize events and build up the hobby. All listed events below are narrative-driven, in-person games (excluding online-only, play-by-post, or pure historical reenactments). These range from intimate chamber dramas to large immersive experiences, often blending costuming, role-play, and even foam-weapon combat. Notably, several events run in English or bilingual formats, making Romania's LARPs increasingly accessible to international participants.
Description: A Bucharest-based group organizing one-shot immersive LARP games every few months (typically 10–20 players each) to grow the local community. Their events, usually 6–8 hours long, span a wide range of genres. For example, one scenario was a Halloween fantasy called Veilbound – a monster hunt in an abandoned amphitheater that even made local news. Another, La Bloc, was a comedic parody of Romanian apartment-block life featuring colorful neighborhood characters. They also run futuristic and horror-themed chamber LARPs (e.g. Synthocracy Conclave, a sci-fi dystopia) and other creative one-shots, often with elaborate costuming and storytelling.

Modern Gothic – Vampire: The Masquerade chronicle
Description: An ongoing story-driven campaign set in World of Darkness lore, where players portray vampires navigating intrigues in Romania's capital. Bucharest by Night is structured as a private ticketed LARP chronicle with episodic events (often filmed/streamed as a YouTube show for a wider audience). It features a recurring cast of characters and emphasizes immersive storytelling, social politics, and supernatural drama in an authentic Bucharest setting. This event is actively marketed to international fans of the genre – run primarily in English and produced by local storytellers (the Deadly Rose & Bucharest Geek Hub).
Cină cu Delict – "Dinner with a Murder" (Timișoara)
Primary Language
Romanian
Genre/Theme
Interactive Mystery Dinner – historical and crime drama
Description: An immersive murder mystery dinner series originating in Timișoara (active since 2017). These theatrical events transform an evening out into a live role-play adventure where guests become characters in a thrilling story.
Each edition features a different scenario – the organizers have a repertoire of over 30 scripted mysteries spanning 800 years of history, from elegant Regency-era balls to Prohibition-era mafia intrigues. Participants dress in theme, interact with actors and clues, and collaboratively solve the "whodunit" by the end of the night. The atmosphere is highly narrative and social, emphasizing suspense, intrigue, and player creativity. (The format is popular for public ticketed events, private parties, and corporate team-building.)
Mixed; casual medieval fantasy combat and mini-games
Description: A grassroots LARP meetup group in Timișoara, focused on accessible outdoor events that blend foam-weapon combat with light role-play. They host regular meetups in local parks (e.g. Pădurice Park), where participants of all ages battle with EVA foam swords, shields, and bows in a friendly environment. Sessions often include improvised scenarios or competitive games – from one-on-one duels and team capture-the-flag battles to occasional narrative exercises like "Purgatory" (where defeated players must appease a grim reaper character). While these gatherings are more action-oriented and rules-light (no strict script; players are free to invent their own character antics), they provide a fun introduction to live role-play and have sparked local interest in more story-driven LARPs. The Timișoara club has also organized chamber-style LARPs and cosplay workshops, helping to expand the hobby in western Romania.
